Product. Wiki: Clearification: Demetri Martin's Vista campaign. Demetri Martin teamed up with Microsoft recently to create a series of six online mini episodes entitled Clearification. These films follow Demetri Martin's adventures at the Institute for Advanced Personhood (IAP), and are quite funny and well made. All of the episodes (and a some funny flash- banter) can be viewed in high- quality on clearification.
The presence of Microsoft and Vista branding is very limited in the episodes and is only present as screenshots of Vista when anyone is using a computer, Microsoft is listed as a sponsor of the IAP (along with three other tiny, obscure, fictional companies including a guy named "Eric"), and has their trademarked Windows logo next to the closing title. It's unclear what the actual intended purpose of this campaign is for Microsoft, and what they get out of it. The best guess is that they have hopes of doing some subtle viral marketing backed by a comedian that has credibility within their target audience. Demetri Martin is probably best known for his appearances on The Daily Show as the host of the Trendspotting segment. Check out the social networking episode: I give kudos to Microsoft for supporting the Clearification project; it's so much better than those annoying ads Apple have been putting out. I think Microsoft should pay a ton of cash to get the PC guy John Hodgman (who also hosts a Daily Show segment) to be part of a series of films in response to Apple. That's what I call advertising!
